My Expat Experience: Living in Romania
Hello there, my name is Arthur, I currently work as Reactivation sales agent and I am based in Bucharest. I am originally from Brazil but I have been living in Romania since almost four years. I must say enjoy a lot living in this country and I have been amazed by its culture from the very beginning.
I came to Romania during my studies for a one year exchange program and then I just fell in love with this place and decided to come back to start a new life over here.
The Romanian language often seems like an issue for most people, but it was never a problem for me, being a Brazilian Portuguese speaker there are many similarities in between the two languages and as Bucharest is the capital of Romania, most people over here can speak very good English.
The food is kind of different from the tropical cuisine I am used to. I started to eat Balkan food and I just love it. Among my favourite dishes there are: Salata Boeuf, Sarmale and different types of smoked meat and cheese.
Throughout my stay here in Romania, I also had the opportunity to live in other cities, one of them is where Vlad Tepes, Dracula, was born (Sighișoara) and to visit almost the whole country. What I found most fascinating is the Carpathians mountains, a real breath-taking landscape, where you can see the Danube delta, one of the largest rivers in Europe, and many medieval castles. This place is so precious and definitely a must visit.
Overall, I found it very easy to make new friends and to adapt to the Romanian culture. I felt pleasantly welcomed since the moment I have landed in this warm hearted place.
Regarding healthcare and transport system, everything is very well organized and I never had big issues. The cost of living is also way cheaper than many other European countries ( You Can find Pint of beer 1 euro for example, in some suburbs around the city:)).
Finally, I would like to say that Romania is a quite unknown pearl in Europe and I would encourage everyone to see, taste and experience it, you will be surprised of how much you can enjoy yourself over here. Come to Romania to see everything that this beautiful country has to offer!
